The Town of Garner would like to invite you to join Garner veterans, their families, community leaders, town residents and friends as we honor all Veterans at Garner’s Veterans Day Celebration and Site Dedication. This event will be held at Lake Benson Park on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 11:00 am. Lake Benson Park is located at 921 Buffaloe Road in Garner. The Town of Garner and the Garner Veterans Memorial Committee have partnered to sponsor this first-ever Veterans Day Celebration.
During this event, the future site of the Garner Veterans Memorial at Lake Benson Park will be dedicated to the community. This memorial will honor Garner veterans and will represent the community’s desire to show support and appreciation to our veterans and their service to our country.
Joining in the Celebration’s Ceremony will be the HHC 535th Military Police Battalion, along with elected officials, the Garner Magnet High School Band, students from Vandora Springs Elementary School and local veteran, vocalist Dave Kamphuis. Guest Speaker for this event will be Garner native, Col. Craig Hales, USMC.
The Town of Garner and the Garner Veterans Memorial Committee have planned this event with the hope that it will proudly serve to recognize and honor all American veterans, those who have served, as well as those currently serving. This event will honor all veterans for their loyal service to our country and show our appreciation for the sacrifices they have made to ensure our freedom.
Limited seating will be available at the park, so if you are unable to stand for any length of time, please feel free to bring a lawn chair with you.
Chick-fil-A will provide a FREE meal to ALL Military Personnel (Active, Veterans & Reserves) at either of their two Garner locations: Garner Towne Square, 2720 Timber Dr. or White Oak Crossing, 220 Shenstone Lane on November 11th, from 11:00 am—2:00 pm.
In the event of inclement weather, the alternate location for this event will be the Aversboro Road Baptist Church Sanctuary at 1600 Aversboro Road in Garner.
If you would like more information on this event, please contact the Town of Garner Parks and Recreation Department at 919-772-4688.
