On Sunday March 2nd, the first Mile Markers to Macy's sponsors were honored during West Johnston's Annual Winter concert. The Mile Marker's to Macy's sponsorship campaign will assist in providing 200 band students a once in a lifetime educational and performance opportunity. It will also bring global exposure to Johnston County and North Carolina as West Johnston's students perform in front of over 250 million people both live and on national television at what has become an American holiday tradition.

The West Johnston Band is 1 of only 5 high school bands from throughout the United States that will be performing in the 2008 Macy's Parade and is the first band in the history of Johnston County to receive this prestigious honor. Currently ranked 15th in the nation, the students have earned the privilege of representing our state, county, and school.
The Mile Marker sculptures presented to the sponsors are original designs and creations of local artists Jeffery Hurr & Mark Kath.
Director of Bands, Lance Britt thanked the sponsors by saying "Without you, [Mile Marker Sponsors] marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade would not become a reality for our students."
